Twitter apps/tools weekly roundup
In the past week, we have seen the drama of twitter’s back and forth act on its replies @username policy. That did not stop twitter apps from popping up. Flirt140, tweetMic, tBuzz, twitterHit launched in the past week. Let’s have a look at them along with a group of other twitter apps that are fairly new to me.
1. TBuzz

My weekly favorite, Tbuzz is the easiest way to tweet about a link (a web page) you come across. Coming from folks behind arc90.com, its original idea was sort of a question:”Wouldn’t it be cool to tweet a page in just a few clicks? Also, wouldn’t it be cool to see what others are saying about the page on Twitter?”
Notice that, before TBuzz, you usually need use “twitter” buttons on a web page, or manually tweet about a page. With Tbuzz, which is a bookmarklet, not only you can tweet about it, you can also see people who tweet about the same webpage, so strike a conversation.

2. Flirt140.com

Founded by serial entrepreneur Philip Kaplan, who is behind Fuckedcompany back in dot com bust in 1999, Adbrite.com, Tweetname (just launched the week before), and Fast140.com, which was apparently just launched as well (see below). This site is the first twitter dating site that ALMOST get it right. In its own word: ” Flirt140 is a site that helps Twitter-ers find each other for dates and more. (you can) search by gender, location and keyword to find people near you. Tag yourself and others with descriptive keywords. Send a private message to anyone. And it’s totally free.”
3. Fast140.com

Again, a product from Philip Kaplan, this website “test” and “rank” your typing speed against other twitter users. Watch out, it can be addictive, hence the app is viral. Kudos to Philip. Another WOM play.
4. TweetMic.com

TweetMic is a brainchild of some creative minds at Voicetal LLC. based in Utah. TweetMic is an iPhone App that allows Twitterers to record audio and post to Twitter. Notice that it does not do the voice recognition, all it does is to let you tweet your audio information (which can be longer than 140) and tweet about it. The mp3 format audio is stored on TweetMic.com’s server.
5. TwitterHit

TwitterHit is a viral app that “boost your followers” by letting you simply follow people who tweet about the keywords you type in, in hope that certain percentage of these people will follow you back. According to their stats, as of May 17, 2009 11:42pm, there have been 13021 profiles added 164254 people, average 13 followers per person. (not a whole lot)
6. Twoogle

Brought to you by Browsys.com, Twoogle provides an easy way to search both Twitter and Google at the same time, and get quick results, side by side in the same window.
7. twitshirt.com:

TwitShirt is not new, but its profit sharing model is worth mentioning as an upcoming, potential winner. The idea is very simple. Whenever someone buys a Twitshirt, which is a t-shirt with an actual tweet, twitShirt set aside $1.00USD for the tweet’s original author. If that is you, you will get paid with $1. To qualify, you will need to opt in by setting up an account on twitshirt.com.
Following is a list of Apps that are new to me:
1. tweetspinner.com: help small businesses, power Twitterers, and anyone else increase their productivity.
2. radaroo.com: “Simple and Free Twitter Dating System”. Dating will become a very lucrative field within twitter space, however I don’t think they are doing it right simply because they Radaroo.com tries to change how people tweet by establishing their own complicated way of tweeting. People won’t bother.
3. twiistup.com: big news for twiistup.com, a high end twitter event company based in LA area, bought out by a private investor this week.
4. Twitter Mosaic: twitter mosaic is a cool little tool letting people turn their colorful followers into a mosaic, which then can be printed/ordered in the form of mugs, t-shirts etc.
5. tweepme.com: A follower chasing app that eats its own dog food. “TweepMe is the easiest way to get new followers on Twitter. When a new member joins, every other member automatically follows the new member, and the new member follows them back. The process is gradual and happens over the course of weeks or months depending on the number of TweepMe members.”
6. tweeteffect.com: really neat idea and nicely built tool letting twitter users see how effective their tweets are in terms of acquiring followers organically. I was surprised to see some of tweet caused lot of damage while others won new followers.
7. untweeps.com: another tool letting you unfollow people you are following but are not active within certain period of time. Nice tool.
